Start your engines! Formula 4 UAE championship added to Yas Marina Circuit calendar
The debut of the Formula 4 UAE championship is the main addition to the schedule for the next 12 months of action planned at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.
The debut of the new Formula 4 UAE championship is the newest inclusion to the new Yas Marina Circuit calendar for the 2016/17 season, which was released yesterday. The series, accredited by the FIA, motorsport’s governing body, will have the majority of its 12 rounds, which will be spread over six weekends, held at the Abu Dhabi track.
Bridge the gap
The first round of the single-seater series, designed to help local drivers in the UAE bridge the gap in standard between existing regional series to more established European competitions, is on October 28, with the final round on April 22. The other new series that will be debuting at Yas Marina this year is the Ferrari MEA series.
The eighth staging of the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix takes place on November 27, and a sell-out 60,000 crowd is expected for the final round of the Formula One season. Meanwhile, the TRD 86 Cup will, for a third season, lead the four-round Yas Racing Series, which also feature seven other series, too.
In total 377 activities are scheduled to be at the facility over the next 12 months, with the Zayed Marathon taking place on March 18 as athletes complete laps of the 5.5 kilometre track, while TriYas is scheduled for February 17, and the regular evening sessions for the public to run and cycle the circuit will also continue.
“We have launched a comprehensive calendar of events and programmes, providing everyone in the UAE with an active and varied choice that underlines the Circuit’s multipurpose role within the community,” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, chief executive of Yas Marina Circuit.
