Last night was a very god night for Shahid Afridi.
Not only did he play the hero in Pakisan's (surprisingly down-to-the-last-over) three-wicket win over Sri Lanka, he became the first man to reach the dual milestones of 1,000 runs and 50 wickets in the T20 format.
Our Osman Samiuddin has a quite worthwhile read on Afridi and last night's match in general for us today, marvelling at the rare match in which Shahid took the game over with his bat.
Omsan writes:
"From the vantage point of inside the stadium, the moon over Dubai could not be seen on Wednesday night, but it can be said with some certainty that it was not blue.
It should have been, though, because Shahid Afridi won Pakistan a match with his bat.

Afridi walked out with Pakistan wobbling at 96 for five in the 15th over, chasing 146. It would be nice to suggest he coolly picked off the runs, but it would be untrue.
A typically helter-skelter 39 from just 20 balls led Pakistan to an edgy three-wicket win. It was sealed, fittingly, with a paddled six over square leg off the first ball of the last over.
In the process, he cemented his credentials as a giant in the Twenty20 format, becoming the first man to complete the double of 1,000 runs and 50 wickets, and ended a run of three successive Pakistan losses at the ground."
For his part, Afridi said, "I'm giving a lot of time to my bowling, but I know how important my batting is for us."

What is Genes in Space?
Genes in Space is an annual competition first launched by the UAE Space Agency, The National and Boeing in 2015.
It challenges school pupils to design experiments to be conducted in space and it aims to encourage future talent for the UAE’s fledgling space industry. It is the first of its kind in the UAE and, as well as encouraging talent, it also aims to raise interest and awareness among the general population about space exploration.

Moment of the day When Dilruwan Perera dismissed Yasir Shah to end Pakistan’s limp resistance, the Sri Lankans charged around the field with the fevered delirium of a side not used to winning. Trouble was, they had not. The delivery was deemed a no ball. Sri Lanka had a nervy wait, but it was merely a stay of execution for the beleaguered hosts.
Stat of the day – 5 Pakistan have lost all 10 wickets on the fifth day of a Test five times since the start of 2016. It is an alarming departure for a side who had apparently erased regular collapses from their resume. “The only thing I can say, it’s not a mitigating excuse at all, but that’s a young batting line up, obviously trying to find their way,” said Mickey Arthur, Pakistan’s coach.
The verdict Test matches in the UAE are known for speeding up on the last two days, but this was extreme. The first two innings of this Test took 11 sessions to complete. The remaining two were done in less than four. The nature of Pakistan’s capitulation at the end showed just how difficult the transition is going to be in the post Misbah-ul-Haq era.

Who was Alfred Nobel?
The Nobel Prize was created by wealthy Swedish chemist and entrepreneur Alfred Nobel.
- In his will he dictated that the bulk of his estate should be used to fund "prizes to those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind".
- Nobel is best known as the inventor of dynamite, but also wrote poetry and drama and could speak Russian, French, English and German by the age of 17. The five original prize categories reflect the interests closest to his heart.
