Two-time WWE World Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins faces Triple H on Sunday at WrestleMania 33 in an unsanctioned match. Ahead of the event he spoke to The National about the match, his fitness, performing in the UAE, and TV show Game of Thrones.
On his fitness after being two months with a knee injury
“My fitness is pretty good. I have been able to be given the go-ahead to do a lot of the training that I am used to ahead of WrestleMania. I have not been in the ring in two months and I am trying to get my wind and my lungs ready to go.”
On the injury helping add intrigue to his match with Triple H
“When the injury happened and I was looking ahead it was miserable. Thinking ‘am I going to be able to make it to WrestleMania?’ Obviously looking back now, allowing my body to rest and rehab was extremely beneficial and yes, the narrastive it has kind of created between me and Triple H I think has made our match unique and very interesting going in.”

On why simply winning on Sunday will not satisfy him
“I have got a chip on my shoulder. For me, we are going out on a stacked card. It is a huge WrestleMania. You have Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg, Roman Reigns and the Undertaker, you got Shane McMahon and AJ Styles and Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho. There is a lot of great matches on this show and for me it is not enough to go out and win. I have to have the best match on one of the best WrestleManias of all time.”
On why he enjoys performing to UAE crowds
“I love the UAE. We have been there a few times now. It is such a beautiful part of the world. I have some really great memories of jet skiing in the Gulf and just hanging out there. The crowds are not oversaturated with professional wrestling, as they do not see it all the time, so we go over there and it is different then say New York City, where they have seen every single thing under the sun for years and they don’t appreciate the little things, while in Abu Dhabi and the UAE they do not see it so they appreciate what we do. It makes my life easier as I do not have to kill myself to get a reaction. They are happy to see us and enjoy a good headlock as much as anything.”
On ambitions to return to the WWE Universal title picture
“100 per cent. If you are on Raw, the Universal title is where you want to be. You want to be the Universal champion. So whether it is Lesnar or Goldberg that comes out on top on Sunday I think it is going to be an interesting situation as you are going to have all the top guys: Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns, myself, Brock Lesnar, Bill Goldberg, and whoever else is there, you are going to have a lot chomping at the bit to get in and have the next shot at the Universal title. That is the goal. That is how you build legacies by winning titles so that is where I want to be once I am done with Triple H.”
On whether receiving a suplex from Brock Lesnar is as painful as it looks?
“Worse. It’s worse than it looks.”
On enjoying his new Kingslayer T-shirt paying homage to the Game of Thrones TV series
“It is a great shirt with a great name from a great show. I am happy to have got it on top of a Seth Rollins logo.”
On what he thinks the outcome of the TV show will be with only two seasons remaining, he adds: "I predict the Night King comes out on top. The Night Walkers are going to destroy everybody. We will see if Dany and Jon Snow can link up and burn them to the ground, but that Night King has a big army. It is going to be a hot next two seasons."
WrestleMania 33 is available on the WWE Network and on OSN and starts at 3am UAE time on Monday morning, with the pre-show beginning at 1am.

UAE cricketers abroad
Sid Jhurani is not the first cricketer from the UAE to go to the UK to try his luck.
Rameez Shahzad Played alongside Ben Stokes and Liam Plunkett in Durham while he was studying there. He also played club cricket as an overseas professional, but his time in the UK stunted his UAE career. The batsman went a decade without playing for the national team.

In the village of Mevagissey in southwest England the housing stock has doubled in the last century while the number of residents is half the historic high. The village's Neighbourhood Development Plan states that 26% of homes are holiday retreats. Prices are high, averaging around £300,000, £50,000 more than the Cornish average of £250,000. The local average wage is £15,458.
Mercer, the investment consulting arm of US services company Marsh & McLennan, expects its wealth division to at least double its assets under management (AUM) in the Middle East as wealth in the region continues to grow despite economic headwinds, a company official said.
Mercer Wealth, which globally has $160 billion in AUM, plans to boost its AUM in the region to $2-$3bn in the next 2-3 years from the present $1bn, said Yasir AbuShaban, a Dubai-based principal with Mercer Wealth.
“Within the next two to three years, we are looking at reaching $2 to $3 billion as a conservative estimate and we do see an opportunity to do so,” said Mr AbuShaban.
Mercer does not directly make investments, but allocates clients’ money they have discretion to, to professional asset managers. They also provide advice to clients.
“We have buying power. We can negotiate on their (client’s) behalf with asset managers to provide them lower fees than they otherwise would have to get on their own,” he added.
Mercer Wealth’s clients include sovereign wealth funds, family offices, and insurance companies among others.
From its office in Dubai, Mercer also looks after Africa, India and Turkey, where they also see opportunity for growth.
Wealth creation in Middle East and Africa (MEA) grew 8.5 per cent to $8.1 trillion last year from $7.5tn in 2015, higher than last year’s global average of 6 per cent and the second-highest growth in a region after Asia-Pacific which grew 9.9 per cent, according to consultancy Boston Consulting Group (BCG). In the region, where wealth grew just 1.9 per cent in 2015 compared with 2014, a pickup in oil prices has helped in wealth generation.
BCG is forecasting MEA wealth will rise to $12tn by 2021, growing at an annual average of 8 per cent.
Drivers of wealth generation in the region will be split evenly between new wealth creation and growth of performance of existing assets, according to BCG.
Another general trend in the region is clients’ looking for a comprehensive approach to investing, according to Mr AbuShaban.
“Institutional investors or some of the families are seeing a slowdown in the available capital they have to invest and in that sense they are looking at optimizing the way they manage their portfolios and making sure they are not investing haphazardly and different parts of their investment are working together,” said Mr AbuShaban.
Some clients also have a higher appetite for risk, given the low interest-rate environment that does not provide enough yield for some institutional investors. These clients are keen to invest in illiquid assets, such as private equity and infrastructure.
“What we have seen is a desire for higher returns in what has been a low-return environment specifically in various fixed income or bonds,” he said.
“In this environment, we have seen a de facto increase in the risk that clients are taking in things like illiquid investments, private equity investments, infrastructure and private debt, those kind of investments were higher illiquidity results in incrementally higher returns.”
The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, one of the largest sovereign wealth funds, said in its 2016 report that has gradually increased its exposure in direct private equity and private credit transactions, mainly in Asian markets and especially in China and India. The authority’s private equity department focused on structured equities owing to “their defensive characteristics.”

How has net migration to UK changed?
The figure was broadly flat immediately before the Covid-19 pandemic, standing at 216,000 in the year to June 2018 and 224,000 in the year to June 2019.
It then dropped to an estimated 111,000 in the year to June 2020 when restrictions introduced during the pandemic limited travel and movement.
The total rose to 254,000 in the year to June 2021, followed by steep jumps to 634,000 in the year to June 2022 and 906,000 in the year to June 2023.
The latest available figure of 728,000 for the 12 months to June 2024 suggests levels are starting to decrease.
