Romelu Lukaku has said he may have to leave Chelsea if the Premier League giants sign Diego Costa.
The 21-year-old Lukaku has spent the past two seasons on loan at English top flight rivals West Bromwich Albion and Everton, with Jose Mourinho the latest Chelsea boss seemingly happy to do without the Belgian striker.
"You know Chelsea: every year they buy a new top striker," Lukaku was quoted as saying by several British newspapers on Saturday.
Lukaku, who scored 16 goals for Everton last season, said: "I remember me coming into the dressing room last year and seeing Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba and going: 'Whoah! What's happening here?'
"But no problem. Many clubs are interested in me.
"At this stage I have to look to myself. I have to play a good World Cup. That's very interesting for all the players looking for a transfer, and I must be one of them. Chelsea know my point of view."
Spain
A World Cup bonus of €720,000 (Dh3.6 million) for each member of Spain's national team if they win the tournament in Brazil has sparked anger. Captain Iker Casillas and vice captain Xavi Hernandez signed the deal with Spain's football federation on June 3 on behalf of the 23 players. It was an increase from the €600,000 each received when Spain won the 2010 tournament. Legislators Pablo Martin Pere and Susana Ros criticised the premium as "disproportionate" and "an insult to citizens" given the recent economic crisis. Legislator Laia Ortiz said she would raise the matter in parliament.
Greece
Greece's departure for their World Cup training base has been delayed after their flight was cancelled because of technical problems with the plane in the United States. Greece were to leave Newark for Brazil early yesterday, shortly after beating Bolivia 2-1 in a World Cup warm-up friendly on Friday night. The team's first Group C match is against Colombia in Belo Horizonte on June 14.
Russia
After requests from Fifa and Uefa, the Russian Football Union has delayed a vote on whether to absorb Crimea's football clubs following Russia's annexation of the peninsula. Crimea's clubs played out last season in the Ukrainian league after Russia annexed the region in February and had hoped to switch to the Russian league for next season.
Brazil
Fernandao, the striker who led Internacional to Copa Libertadores and World Club Cup triumphs in 2006, has died in a helicopter crash in central Brazil, his former club said yesterday. He was 36. Fernando Lucio da Costa played 190 times for the Porto Alegre club and scored 77 goals. He managed the side in 2012. He also played for a season in Qatar at Al Gharafa.
