The UAE’s Khaled Al Kaabi has received a major “morale boost” ahead of his double trap campaign, which starts today at 4pm UAE time, from the latest Asian rankings, which see him climb to No2 in the men’s double trap behind Kuwait’s Fehaid Al Deehani.

Al Kaabi was No 13 in the last rankings issued in December and the Abu Dhabi Police First Warrant Officer, who beat Al Deehani to the gold in January’s Asia Olympic Qualifying Competition, believes the announcement of the latest rankings just ahead of his Olympic debut “represents a major morale boost is get ready to battle with the world’s best”.

“This progress in the rankings is also a great responsibility because it means the hard work cannot stop after the Olympics,” Al Kaabi added. “For now, though, my focus is on fighting for the honour of the nation here in Rio and appearing well on this great Olympic forum.

Al Kaabi’s UAE teammate Saif Bin Futtais keeps his No1 spot at the top of the Asian skeet rankings, while Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum, the third member of the UAE shooting squad the Rio Olympics, has climbed to No7 in the skeet rankings from his December, 2015, position of No19.
