Men’s triple jump final
The first gold medal of the day will be decided in the men’s triple-jump final, which begins at 4.50pm (UAE time). American Christian Taylor, who won the title at London 2012, and won the world gold medal last year, is favourite to prevail. But he is expected to be pushed hard by compatriot Will Claye, who was runner-up four years ago.
Men’s 200m first round
Usain Bolt has little time to reflect on his achievement of winning a third 100-metre Olympic gold on Sunday, as he begins his challenge to win the 200m again today with the first round. The Jamaican is due on the track around 6.50pm. The semi-finals take place tomorrow with the final being held on Thursday.
Women’s football semi-finals
Sweden caused a major upset when they knocked defending champions United States out in the quarter-finals at the weekend on penalties. They face another tough task today at 8pm when they take on Brazil for a spot in Friday’s final. The other semi-final match sees Germany go up against Canada, that encounter starting at 11pm.
Men’s 10km swim final
While it was the women who took to Copacabana Beach yesterday to swim four laps of the bay in Rio, today it is the men’s turn to take centre stage, with their race starting at 4pm. London 2012 winner Ous Mellouli is back to defend his title, but the form man is American Jordan Wilimovsky, who won the world championship last year.
Men’s hockey semi-finals
The business end of the hockey tournament is upon us, with this being semi-finals day in the men’s tournament. Defending champions Germany, who came from behind to beat New Zealand 3-2 in the quarter-finals with two goals in the last minute, take on Argentina, while the Netherlands face Belgium in the first game, which starts at 7pm.

Who are the Sacklers?
The Sackler family is a transatlantic dynasty that owns Purdue Pharma, which manufactures and markets OxyContin, one of the drugs at the centre of America's opioids crisis. The family is well known for their generous philanthropy towards the world's top cultural institutions, including Guggenheim Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, Tate in Britain, Yale University and the Serpentine Gallery, to name a few. Two branches of the family control Purdue Pharma.
Isaac Sackler and Sophie Greenberg were Jewish immigrants who arrived in New York before the First World War. They had three sons. The first, Arthur, died before OxyContin was invented. The second, Mortimer, who died aged 93 in 2010, was a former chief executive of Purdue Pharma. The third, Raymond, died aged 97 in 2017 and was also a former chief executive of Purdue Pharma.
It was Arthur, a psychiatrist and pharmaceutical marketeer, who started the family business dynasty. He and his brothers bought a small company called Purdue Frederick; among their first products were laxatives and prescription earwax remover.
Arthur's branch of the family has not been involved in Purdue for many years and his daughter, Elizabeth, has spoken out against it, saying the company's role in America's drugs crisis is "morally abhorrent".
The lawsuits that were brought by the attorneys general of New York and Massachussetts named eight Sacklers. This includes Kathe, Mortimer, Richard, Jonathan and Ilene Sackler Lefcourt, who are all the children of either Mortimer or Raymond. Then there's Theresa Sackler, who is Mortimer senior's widow; Beverly, Raymond's widow; and David Sackler, Raymond's grandson.
Members of the Sackler family are rarely seen in public.
