Pakistan complete T20 triumph over Australia

Pakistan beat Australia by 11 runs to claim a 2-0 Twenty20 series victory at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

LONDON // Pakistan completed a second victory over World Twenty20 finalists Australia in as many days at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Pakistan, beaten by Australia in the semi-finals in the Caribbean this year, won by 11 runs after their 23-run win on Monday to clinch the two-match series. Pakistan posted a challenging 162 for nine with six of their batsmen reaching double figures, including the Akmal brothers Kamran and Umar who scored 33 and 25 respectively.

Captain Shahid Afridi, who took two excellent catches on Monday, struck with the ball this time. Afridi took two for 30 from his four overs of quickish leg-spin to reduce Australia to 104 for five. Michael Hussey, who steered Australia to victory in the World Cup semi-final in St Lucia when Pakistan appeared to have the game won, kept his team in the match batting at No 7. Left-hander Hussey scored 25 from 14 balls but his dismissal lbw to Umar Gul spelled the end of his team's hopes and they were eventually all out for 151 from 19.4 overs.

The teams meet at Lord's next Tuesday in the first of a two-Test series. * Reuters
