UAE to host three rounds as Porsche GT3 Cup Middle East returns for seventh season

The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East will return for a seventh season, beginning next month in Bahrain, with three rounds set to take place in the UAE.

Comprising 12 races over six rounds, the 2015-6 Porsche GT3 Cup will start at the Bahrain International Circuit on November 20-21 before moving to Saudi Arabia and the Al Reem International Circuit on December 4-5.

The third round will be held at the Yas Marina Cicruit in Abu Dhabi on January 22 before successive rounds at the Dubai Autodrome on January 29-30 and February 19. The event will then conclude back in Bahrain on March 4-5.

Season 6 saw Clemens Schmid win the drivers’ championship ahead of Zaid Ashkanani, while SkyDive Dubai Falcons won the team title.

“Year on year we have seen this series bring out the very best in local racing talent,” Walter Lechner, Manager of Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, said.

“As they battle against each other on the region’s finest racing circuits, they increase their racing knowledge and ability, all while supplying regional motorsport fans with a thrilling spectacle.

“The series has attracted and nurtured some incredible regional drivers and we expect more of the same in the coming season. It’s going to be another tough competition ensuring a lot of excitement for the fans and plenty of opportunities for the participants to enhance and refine their skills.”
