A new star was born in the Champions League this week when Brazilian teenager Rodrygo scored a hat-trick for Real Madrid in their 6-0 thrashing of Galatasaray.

"Hearing the Bernabeu singing my name is a dream come true," Rodrygo said. "I'm so happy, it has been a joyous night but I must try and stay calm."

In horse racing's Melbourne Cup, Vow And Declare ended Australia's 10-year drought for a winner as the Danny O'Brien-trained four-year-old edged out Saeed Bel Obaida's Prince of Arran at Flemington.

“I feel very privileged,” said jockey Craig Williams of his first Melbourne Cup success after winning the "race that stops a nation".

On the Formula One racetrack, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will line-up at next week's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as a six-time world champion.

The Briton finished second behind teammate Valtteri Bottas in last week's United States GP and is now just one title behind German legend Michael Schumacher.

"It's just overwhelming if I'm really honest," said Hamilton. "It was such a tough race today. My mum, dad, step-mum and step-dad and my family are here and it's an honour to be here with six titles."
