John Cena will compete at the WWE's inaugural World Cup in Saudi Arabia in November at Crown Jewel as it was confirmed on Monday that Shawn Michaels is to end his eight-year retirement with a match in Riyadh.

Cena, the 16-time WWE world champion, has been given a place in the World Cup tournament the WWE are holding at the King Saud University Stadium on November 2.

Cena made his return to the WWE, having not been in action since WrestleMania 34 in April, when he won a tag match with Bobby Lashley against Kevin Owens and Elias at Super Show-Down in Melbourne.

The make-up of the World Cup tournament is yet to be announced, but Cena and Kurt Angle, who won a qualifying match on Monday Night Raw on Monday, are among the early participants.

Meanwhile, Michaels announced he was ready to return to the ring on Monday after not competing since 2010.

He and Triple H reunited as D-Generation X on Raw and challenged The Undertaker and Kane to a tag match at Crown Jewel.

This came after Michaels and Triple H were attacked by the pair in Melbourne after Triple H had beaten Undertaker in a singles match.

Michaels had "retired" after losing a Streak versus Career match at WrestleMania 26.

Other matches already confirmed for Crown Jewel, the WWE's second network special event to be held in Saudi Arabia after The Greatest Royal Rumble in April, include Roman Reigns defending his WWE Universal title in a triple threat against Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman.

AJ Styles will also put his WWE Championship belt on the line against Daniel Bryan.

Crown Jewel will be shown live on the WWE Network and also be available on pay-per-view.
