The Brazilian won the 110-kilogram final on Saturday before claiming the King of Mat title in the same weight on Sunday to complete the double at the Los Angeles Convention Centre.

Santos came through three fights in the Grand Slam event and faced five opponents in the King of Mat and emerged undefeated in both the competitions.

“I didn't have any strategy for the competition but just went out there and did my best,” he said after collecting the second title.

“I’m here to fight and that’s the secret behind my success. I would like to give all credit to my team and teammates for helping me develop my game and my career.

“It was an amazing competition and I will keep working hard to become what everyone dreams to become: to be an all-time best hopefully. I am also looking forward to the super fight and the 2019 season.”

In the Grand Slam, Santos outclassed Matheus Felipe by a penalty point in the first fight and defeated Helton Jr 1-0 on advantages. He found a toehold lock to win the final against Max Gimenes.

In the King of Mat, he overcame Gerard Labinski by points and submitted both Rudson Mateus (toe hold) and Alexandro Ceconi (wristlock).

Santos, the defending champion of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, had to face Jackson Sousa twice, first in the group stage and again in the final, winning by an advantage in the first and on the judges' decision in the second.
