Team Abu Dhabi's Thani al Qamzi hopes to take sole possession of the lead in the 2010 UIM F1 Championship when he and teammate Ahmed al Hameli race in this weekend's Grand Prix of China on the Yihe River.
Al Qamzi shares the top spot in the drivers' championship with Jay Price of Team Qatar. Both racers collected 21 points from the first two races of the season in Portugal and Russia. Al Hameli and Sami Selio of Finland are both one point behind the leaders.
Al Hameli holds a slender edge in the pole-position standings and Team Abu Dhabi are well clear in the team championship. Sunday's race at Linyi, in northeastern China, is the first of three grands prix in the next four weekends, all in China.
Amassing championship points and avoiding damage to the boats is crucial for Team Abu Dhabi before the fourth round of the series on October 17 and round five the following weekend.
This weekend's race will also witness the launch of the F4 series for young drivers keen to carve a career in racing. Each of the registered teams in the UIM F1 series has entered a driver. Majed al Mansoori will represent Team Abu Dhabi.
Drivers will take part in a practice session with the new F4 boats, before competing in a time trial tomorrow and the first of two 20-minute races. Meanwhile, in the UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship series, three teams from the UAE will continue their battle for the top spot this weekend in Stresa, Italy.
Two boats from Dubai's Victory Team lead the season competition. Fazza tops the standings with 103 points, followed by Skydive Dubai with 86 and Team Abu Dhabi with 71. No other team has more than 46 points.
Fazza's Nader bin Hendi and Arif al Zafeen are the world champions and won the last race in Sweden. Talib el Sayed and Abdullah al Mehairbi are in the Skydive Dubai boat, and Rashed al Tayer and Giovanni Carpitella are in Team Abu Dhabi.
The Skydive Dubai went on a promotional tour of the area this week, drawing enthusiastic crowds in the both the centre of Milan and outside the Palazzo Reale in Torino. "We are very grateful to Victory Team for allowing us to use one of their raceboats," said the mayor Canio Di Milia.
"It has generated great interest and there really is no better way to promote the event than to have one of these spectacular boats out on display."
After the race this week, the series moves to the UAE for the final two races of the season, in Abu Dhabi in November and in Dubai in December.

Dubai works towards better air quality by 2021
Dubai is on a mission to record good air quality for 90 per cent of the year – up from 86 per cent annually today – by 2021.
The municipality plans to have seven mobile air-monitoring stations by 2020 to capture more accurate data in hourly and daily trends of pollution.
These will be on the Palm Jumeirah, Al Qusais, Muhaisnah, Rashidiyah, Al Wasl, Al Quoz and Dubai Investment Park.
“It will allow real-time responding for emergency cases,” said Khaldoon Al Daraji, first environment safety officer at the municipality.
“We’re in a good position except for the cases that are out of our hands, such as sandstorms.
“Sandstorms are our main concern because the UAE is just a receiver.
“The hotspots are Iran, Saudi Arabia and southern Iraq, but we’re working hard with the region to reduce the cycle of sandstorm generation.”
Mr Al Daraji said monitoring as it stood covered 47 per cent of Dubai.
There are 12 fixed stations in the emirate, but Dubai also receives information from monitors belonging to other entities.
“There are 25 stations in total,” Mr Al Daraji said.
“We added new technology and equipment used for the first time for the detection of heavy metals.
“A hundred parameters can be detected but we want to expand it to make sure that the data captured can allow a baseline study in some areas to ensure they are well positioned.”

Types of fraud
Phishing: Fraudsters send an unsolicited email that appears to be from a financial institution or online retailer. The hoax email requests that you provide sensitive information, often by clicking on to a link leading to a fake website.
Smishing: The SMS equivalent of phishing. Fraudsters falsify the telephone number through “text spoofing,” so that it appears to be a genuine text from the bank.
Vishing: The telephone equivalent of phishing and smishing. Fraudsters may pose as bank staff, police or government officials. They may persuade the consumer to transfer money or divulge personal information.
SIM swap: Fraudsters duplicate the SIM of your mobile number without your knowledge or authorisation, allowing them to conduct financial transactions with your bank.
Identity theft: Someone illegally obtains your confidential information, through various ways, such as theft of your wallet, bank and utility bill statements, computer intrusion and social networks.
Prize scams: Fraudsters claiming to be authorised representatives from well-known organisations (such as Etisalat, du, Dubai Shopping Festival, Expo2020, Lulu Hypermarket etc) contact victims to tell them they have won a cash prize and request them to share confidential banking details to transfer the prize money.

Abdul Jabar Qahraman was meeting supporters in his campaign office in the southern Afghan province of Helmand when a bomb hidden under a sofa exploded on Wednesday.
The blast in the provincial capital Lashkar Gah killed the Afghan election candidate and at least another three people, Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak told reporters. Another three were wounded, while three suspects were detained, he said.
The Taliban – which controls much of Helmand and has vowed to disrupt the October 20 parliamentary elections – claimed responsibility for the attack.
Mr Qahraman was at least the 10th candidate killed so far during the campaign season, and the second from Lashkar Gah this month. Another candidate, Saleh Mohammad Asikzai, was among eight people killed in a suicide attack last week. Most of the slain candidates were murdered in targeted assassinations, including Avtar Singh Khalsa, the first Afghan Sikh to run for the lower house of the parliament.
The same week the Taliban warned candidates to withdraw from the elections. On Wednesday the group issued fresh warnings, calling on educational workers to stop schools from being used as polling centres.

Farage on Muslim Brotherhood
Nigel Farage told Reform's annual conference that the party will proscribe the Muslim Brotherhood if he becomes Prime Minister.
"We will stop dangerous organisations with links to terrorism operating in our country," he said. "Quite why we've been so gutless about this – both Labour and Conservative – I don't know.
“All across the Middle East, countries have banned and proscribed the Muslim Brotherhood as a dangerous organisation. We will do the very same.”
It is 10 years since a ground-breaking report into the Muslim Brotherhood by Sir John Jenkins.
Among the former diplomat's findings was an assessment that “the use of extreme violence in the pursuit of the perfect Islamic society” has “never been institutionally disowned” by the movement.
The prime minister at the time, David Cameron, who commissioned the report, said membership or association with the Muslim Brotherhood was a "possible indicator of extremism" but it would not be banned.

You can donate to several registered charities through a “donation catalogue”. The use of the donation is quite specific, such as buying a fan for a poor family in Niger for Dh130.
The General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments
