RA Dickey threw a complete-game shutout as the New York Mets blanked the St Louis Cardinals for a second straight day in a 5-0 win.

A day after Carlos Santana hurled the Mets' first ever no-hitter, Dickey allowed seven hits and did not walk a batter in claiming his eighth win of the season.

Dickey, who also drove in a run, was backed by a three-run second inning and a homer from David Wright in the eighth.

Miguel Cabrera hit two huge home runs as the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees 4-3.

The Tigers contrived to allow the Yankees to tie the game up without getting a hit in the ninth as a run was allowed on two hit batters and two walks.

Omir Santos allowed the Tigers to walk off in the bottom of the ninth though as he drove in the winning run on a sacrifice fly.

Stephen Strasburg threw seven shutout innings to come out on top against Brandon Beachy in a battle between two of the National League's best starters as the Washington Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves 2-0.

Catcher Jesus Flores homered for the Nationals.

Brian Matusz dominated the Tampa Bay Rays in 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball to lift the Baltimore Orioles to a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Endy Chavez went yard for the Orioles, who snapped a six-game losing streak.

Nick Punto had three hits, including his first home run of the season, as the Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-4.

The Seattle Mariners ended the Chicago White Sox's nine-game winning streak by beating them 10-8, but they needed 12 innings to do it.

Hanley Ramirez smacked two long balls to lead the Miami Marlins to a 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Drew Stubbs drove in four and was one of four Cincinnati players to homer, while Joey Votto had four hits and also went yard in the Reds' 12-9 win over the Houston Astros.

Matt Cain hurled eight frames of one-run ball to give the San Francisco Giants a 2-1 success over the Chicago Cubs.

Brooks Conrad's first hit of the season was a two-run homer in the Milwaukee Brewers' 5-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Daniel Hudson allowed two runs in eight innings to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Diego Padres 4-2, while to Los Angeles Angels pipped the Texas Rangers 3-2.

The Oakland Athletics beat the Kansas City Royals 9-3, Los Angeles saw off the Colorado Rockies 6-2 and the Minnesota Twins were 7-4 winners over the Cleveland Indians.
