ABU DHABI // Khurram Khan, the UAE captain, is hopeful they can improve their chances of qualifying for the 2015 ICC World Cup in the away series against Canada in the ICC Intercontinental Cup and the ICC World Cricket League (WCL).
Ireland have already secured their place as one of the two teams from the WCL Championship to qualify automatically for the World Cup with the race for the second team still wide open.
The UAE are lying in sixth on 10 points in the WCL but only four points behind the teams ahead of them.
Ireland have taken an unassailable 20 points followed by Holland and Scotland on 15 each, Afghanistan 11, Kenya 11, UAE 10, Namibia 4 and Canada 3.
"Obviously we want to return with as many points as possible to keep our qualification hopes alive in the World Cup," Khurram said.
"The qualification battle behind Ireland is still wide open and if we can get maximum points from the one-day games we will have an excellent chance of achieving our objectives."
The UAE open the tour with the four-day Intercontinental Cup at the Maple Leaf North-West Ground in King City from August 1 to 4.
They play the first two one-day games at the same venue on August 6 and 8, and move to Toronto to play the two remaining matches on August 10 and 11.

He was prolific for a season at Al Wasl in the Arabian Gulf League in 2012/13. He returned for one season with Fujairah, whom he left to join Pune.

Basquiat in Abu Dhabi
One of Basquiat’s paintings, the vibrant Cabra (1981–82), now hangs in Louvre Abu Dhabi temporarily, on loan from the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
The latter museum is not open physically, but has assembled a collection and puts together a series of events called Talking Art, such as this discussion, moderated by writer Chaedria LaBouvier.
It's something of a Basquiat season in Abu Dhabi at the moment. Last week, The Radiant Child, a documentary on Basquiat was shown at Manarat Al Saadiyat, and tonight (April 18) the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is throwing the re-creation of a party tonight, of the legendary Canal Zone party thrown in 1979, which epitomised the collaborative scene of the time. It was at Canal Zone that Basquiat met prominent members of the art world and moved from unknown graffiti artist into someone in the spotlight.
“We’ve invited local resident arists, we’ll have spray cans at the ready,” says curator Maisa Al Qassemi of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
