Plans for Manny Pacquiao to return to the ring for a fifth fight with Juan Manuel Marquez have taken a blow after the Mexican opted to fight Pacquiao's previous foe Tim Bradley, according to reports today.
The Filipino star had been expected to take on Marquez, who handed Pacquiao a stunning sixth round defeat late last year, in another rematch this December - with Dubai among the locations linked with staging the fight.
But now reports from the US claim that Marquez will face Bradley, who controversially beat Pacquiao in June last year to take his WBO welterweight title.
The bout between Marquez and Bradley, for that WBO title, is planned for September 14 in Las Vegas, according to promoter Bob Arum.
"Marquez wanted to fight Bradley and Bradley wanted to fight Marquez," Arum told the LA Times.
Arum said the major stumbling block to a fifth Marquez-Pacquiao matchup was the Filipino fighter insisting it be staged in Macau or Singapore, where he could avoid a 40 per cent tax on his prize money.
"Marquez isn't convinced Marquez-Pacquiao in Asia will result in the pay-per-view money being as strong," Arum said.
Marquez, 55-6 with one draw and 40 knockouts, has not fought since beating Pacquiao. Bradley, 30-0 with 12 knockouts, comes off a unanimous but narrow title defence over Russia's Ruslan Provodnikov last month.
The fight leaves a hole in Pacquiao's schedule now, with the 54-5-2 fighter considering a bout against either Mike Alvarado or Brandon Rios, the promoter claimed. That bout is likely to take place in the Far East rather than Dubai.

Stuart Ritchie, director of wealth advice at AES International, says children cannot learn something overnight, so it helps to have a fun routine that keeps them engaged and interested.

Credit Score explained
What is a credit score?
In the UAE your credit score is a number generated by the Al Etihad Credit Bureau (AECB), which represents your credit worthiness – in other words, your risk of defaulting on any debt repayments. In this country, the number is between 300 and 900. A low score indicates a higher risk of default, while a high score indicates you are a lower risk.
Why is it important?
Financial institutions will use it to decide whether or not you are a credit risk. Those with better scores may also receive preferential interest rates or terms on products such as loans, credit cards and mortgages.
How is it calculated?
The AECB collects information on your payment behaviour from banks as well as utilitiy and telecoms providers.
How can I improve my score?
By paying your bills on time and not missing any repayments, particularly your loan, credit card and mortgage payments. It is also wise to limit the number of credit card and loan applications you make and to reduce your outstanding balances.
How do I know if my score is low or high?
By checking it. Visit one of AECB’s Customer Happiness Centres with an original and valid Emirates ID, passport copy and valid email address. Liv. customers can also access the score directly from the banking app.
How much does it cost?
A credit report costs Dh100 while a report with the score included costs Dh150. Those only wanting the credit score pay Dh60. VAT is payable on top.
