DETROIT // Marian Hossa scored 23 seconds into overtime to notch his 300th career goal and first for the Detroit Red Wings, as he lifted the Stanley Cup champions to a thrilling 5-4 win over the New York Rangers on Saturday. Hossa, who came to Detroit on a one-year $7.4million (Dh 27.1m) deal in the summer, earned the Red Wings their first home win of the season when he took a feed from Pavel Datsyuk and slammed the puck past the Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist.
"First one as a Red Wing and an overtime winner - it doesn't get better than this," Hossa said of the game. "Being the first in five games it felt good. "It was a great play by Pavel in the corner and I just tried to shoot low blocker. "Rangers kept coming on us but we didn't give up." After losing in heartbreaking fashion to the Vancouver Canucks on a goal scored 27 seconds into overtime on Thursday, the Red Wings looked to be heading for another crushing home loss when Aaron Voros scored twice in quick succession in the third peiod to vault the New Yorkers in front 4-3.
But Detroit answered with a powerplay strike with Jiri Hudler backhanding the puck over a diving Lundqvist with just over three minutes left in regulation to bring the scores level again. Mikael Samuelsson, Johan Franzen and Tomas Holmstrom also fund the net for the Red Wings. Ryan Callahan and Nigel Dawes scored the other goals for the Rangers. "It was good to see Hossa get the monkey off his back and get his 300th here tonight," said the Wings coach Mike Babcock.
"He gets his first one and now they'll go in for him. He's had so many opportunities. "I thought we played well enough all night that if we stayed determined we would win. "The first two goals we gave them were basically gifts." It was tough luck for the Rangers, who had to deal with the death of highly-touted prospect Alexei Cherepanov, 19, during a Continental Hockey League contest in Russia last week, as they suffered just their second defeat of the season.

Why it pays to compare
A comparison of sending Dh20,000 from the UAE using two different routes at the same time - the first direct from a UAE bank to a bank in Germany, and the second from the same UAE bank via an online platform to Germany - found key differences in cost and speed. The transfers were both initiated on January 30.

The UAE bank charged Dh152.25 for the Dh20,000 transfer. On top of that, their exchange rate margin added a difference of around Dh415, compared with the mid-market rate.

The UAE bank transfer was far quicker – around two to three working days, while the online platform took around four to five days, but was considerably cheaper. In the online platform transfer, the funds were also exposed to currency risk during the period it took for them to arrive.
