Luke Donald seeks advice from Faldo ahead of British Open challenge

The world number one hopes to end bad luck at major championships with victory at Royal Lytham - with the assistance of legendary golfer Nick Faldo.

Luke Donald has revealed he sought out Nick Faldo for advice as he attempts to claim his first major title at the British Open this week.

Donald has risen to be world number one after a remarkably consistent run of form, culminating in him becoming the first player in history to top the money list on both sides of the Atlantic in the same year.

Yet he has struggled to carry that form into major championships - claiming just six top-10 finishes in 35 events.

In a bid to improve that record, Donald has spoken to Faldo, the most successful British player of modern times.

"I spoke to him at the Memorial tournament this year," he said.

"He was all about preparation and being meticulous and was into all the little details.

"He said 'don't force yourself into playing something you are not comfortable with'. I suppose I was aware of it, but it is nice to hear that from one of the guys who has done it."

Donald, who was yesterday drawn alongside Phil Mickelson and Geoff Ogilvy for the first two rounds at Royal Lytham and St Annes, is exploring every possibility in his bid to end his drought having also spoken to 18-time major winner Jack Nicklaus.

"I have got to try my hardest in finding out what is the correct way for me," he added.

"There is no ego with me, I just want to win."
