Ahead of the start of the 2015 Mena Golf Tour, The National’s John McAuley picks five golfers to watch out for during the upcoming season.

Joshua White

Arriving in Morocco as the reigning Order of Merit champion, the Englishman will be seeking to build on a consistent 2014. White may have won only once in nine events, but he banked $28,471 (Dh104,578) throughout the year, which was $1,400 more than his closest competitor. A runner-up finish in the season-ending Tour Championship sealed the top prize.

Zane Scotland

Easily the tour’s most successful golfer, the Englishman has triumphed nine times in four seasons. He has also posted three runner-up finishes. In 2013, Scotland was almost untouchable, winning the opening three tournaments before adding another two to run away with the Order of Merit title. Concluded last season very strongly, too, capturing two of the final three trophies.

Dominic Foos

Already labelled the ‘new Martin Kaymer’, the German teenager manufactured a superb amateur CV before turning professional on his 17th birthday last September. Two years previously, Foos had been ranked the No 1 amateur in the world. Although a Mena Tour debutant, he has considerable experience on the European Tour, finishing tied-16th at the 2014 Qatar Masters. A big future beckons.

Haydn McCullen

Another teenager tipped for success, the Englishman competed in his first professional tournament at last October’s Challenge Tour event in Oman, before officially joining the pro ranks last month. Made headlines in May last year when he clinched the McEvoy Trophy, a prominent amateur championship previously won by Lee Westwood and Justin Rose. Aged 18, McCullen is also a Mena Tour rookie.

Ahmed Marjane

Winner of the inaugural amateur Order of Merit in 2011, the Moroccan landed a scholarship with the Sheikh Maktoum Golf Foundation. His progress since has been rapid, with Marjane securing his first Mena Tour victory last year at the Ras Al Khaimah Classic. Performed the best of the tour’s seven invitees in February’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic, finishing tied-76th.
