Former Netherlands and Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar will come out of retirement to play one game for his first club VV Noordwijk on Saturday.
The amateur club were left without a keeper after injuries and Van der Sar, 45, has agreed to step in, almost five years since he last played professional football.
“I want to help my first club, but it’s just for a single game,” Van der Sar said.
Poll: After defeat to Liverpool, are Manchester United's Europa League chances over?
He left Noordwijk, who are currently in the Dutch fourth tier, to join Ajax, where he won the 1995 Uefa Champions League.
He went on to play in Italy for Juventus, before making over 300 appearances in the Premier League for Fulham and United, where he also won seven major trophies.
Van der Sar is the Netherlands’ record appearance maker, his 130th and final international game coming in 2008.

Key findings of Jenkins report
- Founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hassan al Banna, "accepted the political utility of violence"
- Views of key Muslim Brotherhood ideologue, Sayyid Qutb, have “consistently been understood” as permitting “the use of extreme violence in the pursuit of the perfect Islamic society” and “never been institutionally disowned” by the movement.
- Muslim Brotherhood at all levels has repeatedly defended Hamas attacks against Israel, including the use of suicide bombers and the killing of civilians.
- Laying out the report in the House of Commons, David Cameron told MPs: "The main findings of the review support the conclusion that membership of, association with, or influence by the Muslim Brotherhood should be considered as a possible indicator of extremism."

Also on December 7 to 9, the third edition of the Gulf Car Festival (www.gulfcarfestival.com) will take over Dubai Festival City Mall, a new venue for the event. Last year's festival brought together about 900 cars worth more than Dh300 million from across the Emirates and wider Gulf region – and that first figure is set to swell by several hundred this time around, with between 1,000 and 1,200 cars expected. The first day is themed around American muscle; the second centres on supercars, exotics, European cars and classics; and the final day will major in JDM (Japanese domestic market) cars, tuned vehicles and trucks. Individuals and car clubs can register their vehicles, although the festival isn’t all static displays, with stunt drifting, a rev battle, car pulls and a burnout competition.
