English football columnist Richard Jolly names his Best XI in the Premier League for the September 20-21 weekend:
Goalkeeper: Wojciech Szczesny (Arsenal). Made a crucial early save from Fabian Delph as Arsenal went on to win 3-0 at Villa Park.
Right-back: Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton). Another impressive performance, another victory and another clean sheet for a team sitting second in the table.
Centre-back: Winston Reid (West Ham). Scored West Ham’s opener and defended with trademark vigour in the surprise 3-1 win over Liverpool.
Centre-back: Joleon Lescott (West Brom). Was in fine form at the back as Albion recorded their first win of the season by beating Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Left-back: James Milner (Manchester City). Started off on the right wing, ended up at left-back and, in his new role, City’s Mr Versatile set up Frank Lampard’s equaliser against Chelsea.
Right midfield: Stewart Downing (West Ham). Has begun the season superbly and starred at the tip of a midfield diamond as Liverpool were defeated.
Centre midfield: Mesut Ozil (Arsenal). Answered questions about his toughness in fine style by scoring one goal and setting up another in his best display of the season.
Centre midfield: Esteban Cambiasso (Leicester City). The 2010 Champions League winner scored his first Leicester goal in the improbable comeback against Manchester United.
Left midfield: Yannick Bolasie (Crystal Palace). Excelled in the unexpected win over Everton and got the goal his high-class performance merited.
Centre forward: Jamie Vardy (Leicester City). Went from non-league to Premier League in three years and capped his remarkable rise by tormenting Manchester United.
Centre forward: Papiss Cisse (Newcastle United). He was not fully fit but the Senegalese striker might have saved manager Alan Pardew’s job with his two-goal cameo against Hull.
