With Friday's bombshell news that Arsene Wenger is to leave Arsenal at the end of the season after 22 years in charge still being digested, we take a look back on his career in the Premier League.

Arsenal said that a successor to replace the 68-year-old Frenchman, who has won three Premier Leagues, an unprecedented seven FA Cups as well as guided the club to their only Uefa Champions League final in 2006, where they lost to Barcelona, will begin "as soon as possible".

Wenger's position has come under intense scrutiny over the past 18 months due to repeated failings in the Premier League and the Uefa Champions League.

Richard Jolly analyses the main contenders to replace Wenger, who is widely regarded as having revolutionised not only the fortunes of Arsenal but football in England since arriving at Highbury as a then-unheralded manager, who had been in charge at Monaco and Japanese side Nagoya Grampus Eight, in August 1996, changing attitudes on everything from players' diets, the recruitment of high-class foreign players as well as embracing sports science.
