Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia: All you need to know about the revamped tournament led by Barcelona and Real Madrid

Next week, Real Madrid and Barcelona headline the 2019/20 Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia. Here’s the details.

What is it?

The Spanish Super Cup, a competition contested traditionally by the two successful sides in Spanish football’s main tournaments the preceding season. This year, it has been expanded from two teams to four, comprising two semi-finals and a final.

The tournament was to feature both finalists from the 2018/19 Copa del Rey and the remaining highest-ranked teams from the 2018/19 La Liga season – had they not qualified already through the cup final. It will be held in Saudi Arabia for the next three years.

When is it?

The tournament takes place January 8-12, in Jeddah.

Where is it?

All matches will be played at King Abdullah Sports City, the 62,000-plus capacity stadium, home primarily to Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli.

Who is playing?

Valencia (Copa del Rey winners)

Barcelona (La Liga champions and Copa del Rey runners-up)

Atletico Madrid (La Liga runners-up)

Real Madrid (La Liga third place)

Tickets for the semi-finals start at 75 SAR (roughly Dh74), with the final starting at 150 SAR. Entry into Saudi has changed for tourists and can be completed online at www.visitsaudi.com. Applications are often processed within 48 hours.
