Jurgen Klopp put his players through their paces at Liverpool's training ground on Monday as they step up preparations for Saturday's Uefa Champions League final on Saturday.

Mohamed Salah, whose record-breaking season saw him score 32 Premier League goals, named the division's player of the year to go with his players' and football writers' awards, took part in the session at Melwood alongside other first-team players Roberto Firmino, Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and others.

Lying in wait for the Reds in Kiev are Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane's side were held to a 2-2 draw by Villarreal in their final Primera Liga game of the season on Saturday, but few would write the Spanish giants off.

Real are attempting to win the competition for a third time in a row, which no team has done since Bayern Munich in 1976.

Liverpool's Germany international midfielder Emre Can, who has missed the past two months with injury, returned to training and his return to fitness is a boost for Klopp whose midfield options have been restricted by injury to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

But Klopp cautioned about Can's potential involvement in the game in Kiev.

"It depends always on the reaction. But let me put it this way, 10 days ago I didn't think it is possible he could do what he did today. It looked good. It was really positive but we have to wait," he told reporters.

"The door is open - he is really desperate to be a part. We shall see," Klopp added.

James Milner, who missed the final Premier League game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion with a muscle problem, also took part in the training session.
