Paul Pogba driven by memories of trophyless season after inspiring Manchester United to FA Cup win over Chelsea

French midfielder created the first goal and scored the second at Stamford Bridge to set up a quarter-final tie with Wolves

Paul Pogba has said he is motivated by Manchester United's lack of trophies last season after the midfielder helped his side reach the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Pogba was central to the 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, providing the cross for Ander Herrera's opener before scoring the second goal as United set up a last-eight clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The victory kept United's hopes of silverware alive having fallen 14 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, while their Uefa Champions League chances hang by a thread following the 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

Pogba helped United win the League Cup and Europa League in his first year back at the club following his then world record €105 million (Dh436m) move from Juventus in 2016.

However, last season's trophyless campaign has added fresh motivation, and having experienced defeat for the first time since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as manager, Pogba is determined to add to his winners medals this year.

"Losing a game after 11 games without losing hurts and it's a really bad feeling, so you don't want this to happen again," Pogba told MUTV.

"All the competitions are important. We want to win something. Last year we didn't win any trophies. I still remember that. This year we want to win something."

After another impressive performance, Pogba felt United, who next play Liverpool on Sunday, have even more to give.

"The result was great, but we should do better. We should react even better," he said. "We made it harder for ourselves. We can control more, play more and hurt them more with the ball."
