Croatian left by 'mutual agreement' following club's defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt

Niko Kovac's 17-month spell in charge of Bayern Munich ended on Sunday as the German club parted ways with their Croatian manager following Saturday's 5-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Defeat by Eintracht - Bayern's heaviest defeat in the Bundesliga in a decade - was the club's second of the season but they have also drawn three and are in fourth place in the league standings.

Kovac, 48, succeeded Jupp Heynckes in July 2018 and led the Bavarian giants to a league-and-cup double in his first season in charge as well as the German Super Cup.

The club said Kovac was relieved of his duties by "mutual agreement" following a meeting with club president Uli Hoeness, chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and Kovac himself.
