Liverpool may not have been wholly convincing in their past two outings, but wins over Everton and Burnley extended their club-record start to a Premier League season. The Premier League’s second-highest scorers welcome the lowest to Emirates Stadium, and while Huddersfield have shown improvement in recent weeks, successive defeats to Brighton and Bournemouth leaves them perilously above the drop zone. • Burnley 1 Brighton and Hove Ablion 1 Why? Last season’s over-achievers are now in a relegation dogfight, having lost six of their past seven and conceding 20 goals. Sean Dyche and his side host a high-flying Brighton team who have won their past two. However, Brighton have produced the odd slip this season, and another below-par performance could be enough for Burnley to earn a point. Reuters

  • Cardiff City 0 Southampton 1 Why? A battle between two relegation rivals, although it is Cardiff looking down on their visitors following two wins in their past four matches. Southampton have only won one match all season, but the arrival of former RB Leipzig manager Ralph Hasenhuttl to replace Mark Hughes should give the visitors enough of a jolt to seal a much-needed win in Wales. • West Ham United 1 Crystal Palace 1 Why? West Ham have been in good form of late, winning three of their past five, with the only defeat coming against Manchester City. They are scoring goals for fun, too, with 11 scored across those five games. Palace were poor in their last match, a 3-1 defeat to 10-man Brighton, but this is the sort of game where West Ham’s inconsistency rears its ugly head. Getty Images

  • Chelsea 1 Manchester City 2 Why? After bouncing back from their hammering at Tottenham with a win against Fulham and taking a deserved lead at Wolves, Chelsea looked to be back on track. However, two quick second half goals turned that game on its head and the London club look extremely vulnerable ahead of hosting the champions. City, by comparison, are in irresistible form, and their momentum and quality should be too much for Chelsea’s shaky defence. Getty Images

  • Leicester City 0 Tottenham Hotspur 2 Why? Leicester have recovered from a horrid run of results that saw them lose six successive matches and are unbeaten in their past six. However, two wins in that stretch of games all against sides in the bottom half does not suggest a side in hot form. Tottenham recovered from their derby defeat to Arsenal with a comfortable win over Southampton, and should produce a similarly straightforward win at Leicester. EPA

  • Newcastle United 1 Wolves 2 Why? Arguably the hardest match to predict given both teams’ unpredictability so far this season. Newcastle struggled all season before winning three in a row, only to get thrashed at home by West Ham. A draw last time out against Everton was an encouraging result. Wolves, meanwhile, have collected points from most of the league’s heavyweights but have struggled against the bottom sides. Wolves to use their confidence from the win over Chelsea to shade this one. Reuters

  • Everton 2 Watford 2 Why? Everton’s fine run of form was abruptly halted by a bizarre, late defeat to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby and a draw at home to Newcastle should be deemed a disappointment. Watford’s early season form seems to have vanished – no wins in five – but two teams capable of scoring goals mean this should be an even contest. Reuters
