Henrikh Mkhitaryan urges patience as Arsenal get to grips with Unai Emery's 'philosophy'

Two defeats from his first two Premier League matches for the Spanish manager since replacing Arsene Wenger at the Emirates

Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has called for patience as Arsenal continue to adjust to the methods and demands of new manager Unai Emery.

Emery, who took over from Arsene Wenger in the summer after the Frenchman ended his 22-year association with the Premier League club, has been handed a tough start to life in English football.

After facing, and losing to, defending champions Manchester City in his opening game, the Spaniard took his side across London to face rivals Chelsea in his second outing.

A 3-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge means Emery has played two and lost two in the Premier League, but Mkhitaryan has said there is no need panic or to doubt the former Sevilla manager's approach.

"Everyone has their own opinion. We know very well what we are playing for and how we have to play. If we are just going to kick the ball up front and wait for God to give us a chance to score, it's not necessary," Mkhitaryan, 29, told Sky Sports.

"The only thing we have to do is to work hard, believe in ourselves and use the chances we create to score goals ... we're creating chances. Maybe we're not as good to score at the moment but I think it's just the first few games."

After facing two of the Premier League's strongest teams, Arsenal host West Ham United on Saturday, with their fellow Londoners also seeking their first points of the season.

"Emery kept the philosophy of Wenger but is building something new on it. It's not easy but I think he's doing it in the right way," Mkhitaryan added.

"He wants to play football and dominate the game and that's what we are doing ... The important thing is to stay positive, believe in ourselves and to keep working the same way and the result will come."
