Billy Gilmour did his burgeoning reputation no harm on Tuesday night after producing an all-action and man of the match display to guide Chelsea past Liverpool and into the FA Cup quarter-finals. There has been plenty of excitement around Chelsea about the talent Gilmour possesses and the 18-year-old Scottish midfielder last month permanently moved up to the senior squad. It is a decision that looks to have so far paid off for manager Frank Lampard as Gilmour marked his third start for Chelsea with a superb performance at Stamford Bridge. "What an incredible performance for a young player. He was a calm head in that first five or 10 minutes. He's a throwback of a midfielder," Lampard said after his side's 2-0 win over Liverpool, courtesy of goals from Willian and Ross Barkley. "Can you put your foot in? Yes. Can you make angles to play the passes? Yes. He's only slight in stature but he's huge in personality. He deserves people to talk about him after a performance like that." Chelsea may be short on quality in other areas of the pitch, most notably in defence and attack, but the Blues are well stocked in central midfield with the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, N'Golo Kante, Barkley, Mason Mount, and the returning Ruben Loftus-Cheek all vying for places. However, more performances like the one against Liverpool and Gilmour will soon be forcing his way into Lampard's plans on a more regular basis.
