A first win for Jose Mourinho's Tottenham, and Liverpool march on: The Premier League predictions

A look ahead to the action in England's top flight

West Ham v Tottenham, Saturday, 4.30pm: He's back in the Premier League with Tottenham. Did you miss Jose Mourinho? It's fair to say he missed the theatre of it all. Which Jose will we get; surly, snarling and defensive, or smiling, open and friendly? Some derby to kick of with, and the Portuguese will be in his element. What did we do without him! Arsenal v Southampton, Saturday, 7pm: Unai Emery doesn't appear to be enjoying himself at Arsenal, and the fans aren't exactly enamoured with what he's producing. There was strong speculation he would be replaced in the international break, and now there will be fearful glances at their north London rivals Spurs after Jose's arrival, because he ALWAYS wins trophies. Still, if you wanted to pick an opponent when struggling, Southampton might be the choice. AFP PREDICTION: Arsenal 3 Souhtampton 0

Bournemouth v Wolves, Saturday, 7pm: Adama Traore terrorised Aston Villa a fortnight ago as Wolves continue to impress after a slow start to the season. He earned a call-up to the Spain squad, but injury denied him a first cap. Bournemouth are good enough to beat Manchester United one week, then poor enough to lose to Newcastle the next. Brighton v Leicester, Saturday, 7pm: Brendan Rogers insists Leicester are "not really thinking about the title race" despite the 2-0 win over Arsenal last time out elevating them to second sport behind Liverpool. While Rogers is probably right, with James Maddison and Jamie Vardy in such fine form, you just never know. After all, history says anything is possible with Leicester. Crystal Palace v Liverpool, Saturday, 7pm: Eight points clear at the top, nine points ahead of reigning champions Manchester City. Can anything stop Liverpool's march on the title? Possibly only a catastrophic injury list, and while pictures of Mo Salah in a support boot would have been worrying, they have far too much attacking talent to make that a game changer. Everon v Norwich, Saturday, 7pm: Norwich have a unique claim to fame this season; they have lost to Watford. That home defeat last time out saw Norwich slump to the bottom of the table. After a bright start, which saw Teemu Pukki score six in his first five games, they have struggled. Pukki has not found the net in his last seven, though he did score in midweek for Finland and that might spark some hope. AFP PREDICTION: Everton 2 Norwich 1

Watford v Burnley, Saturday, 7pm: There is much to be admired about Sean Dyche and the amazing job he has done at Burnley. Just seven years ago, Dyche was forging his managerial career at opponents Watford, and doing a very good job. However, the club were taken over, and Dyche was deposed for 'glamour' in Gianfranco Zola. Watford have made nine managerial appointments since. Dyche has been at Burnley throughout them all. PA PREDICTION: Watford 1 Burnley 1

Manchester City v Chelsea, Saturday, 9.30pm: Frank Lampard spent a year at Manchester City after leaving Chelsea, much to the chagrin of Blues fans. Pretty sure they've forgiven him now as Chelsea sit third in the table, a point clear of City. Will he have picked up a few secerets about the opposition? We will soon find out. Sheffield United v Manchester United, Sunday, 7.30pm: Picture it now; Jose Mourinho is an instant success at Tottenham, and they win the league next season. How would the United hierarchy feel about that after his bitter departure 11 months ago? Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was an instant hit as caretaker, but he needs more goals from Marcus Rashford and his mates if he is to progress with the permanent role. AFP PREDICTION: Sheffield United 1 Manchester United 1

Aston Villa v Newcastle, Monday, midnight: Newcastle just may have turnd the corner. Allan Saint-Maximin has looked very lively, and even the fickle Toon fans have been positive about recent performances. Two wins and a draw bode well, and unless the international break has disrupted momentum, they can keep climbing. Reuters PREDICTION: Aston Villa 1 Newcastle 2

"Please don't call me arrogant, but I'm European champion and I think I'm a special one." With those words, Jose Mourinho introduced himself to the Premier League at Chelsea in the summer of 2004.

Here we are 15 years later and The Special One is back, this time at Tottenham after a roller-coaster ride around Europe and Manchester.

The fascination has not dimmed, even if his spell at Old Trafford did hint that his magical powers may be on the wane.

Tottenham certainly still believe he is the real deal, and the first test of his mettle will be at West Ham in the first Premier League game of the weekend, Saturday at 4.30pm.

Liverpool's trip to Crystal Palace is the pick of the 7pm games, while Saturday concludes with Manchester City hosting Chelsea at 9.30pm, a tough one for Frank Lampard.

Sunday offers a tough-as-steel Sheffield United at home to Manchester United at 8.30pm, while the action concludes on Monday night at midnight with Aston Villa against Newcastle.
