Manchester United 1 Manchester City 2

United: Ibrahimovic (42’)

City: De Bruyne (15’), Iheanacho (36’)

Manchester City maintained their 100 per cent record in the Premier League as goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Kelechi Iheanacho gave Pep Guardiola’s side a 2-1 victory at Manchester United.

De Bruyne slotted home in the 15th minute to open the scoring after beating a hesitant Daley Blind to a flick on from Iheanacho.

City dominated United throughout the opening stages as Jose Mourinho’s side struggled to cope with the pace of the City attack, and a second goal came in the 36th minute.

• More: United loses battle, but signs of encouragement

De Bruyne found space in the area, and though his curling shot struck the post, it found Iheanacho to rebound it home.

But United were given a lifeline when goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, in his first City match, failed to deal with a cross and Zlatan Ibrahimovic fired home.

United were more of a threat in the second half, with the pace of substitute Marcus Rashford causing the City backline problems.

United did have the ball in the net again when Rashford’s shot was deflected past Bravo by Ibrahimovic, but it was correctly ruled out for offside.

De Bruyne again hit the woodwork as City were a threat on the counter-attack, but although they did not find the net again before the end it did not matter as they made it four wins out of four this season in the league.

Swansea City 2 Chelsea 1

Swansea: Sigurdsson (59’ PK) Fer (62’)

Chelsea: Costa (18’, 81’)

Diego Costa was centre stage and scored twice but could not prevent Chelsea losing their 100 per cent Premier League record in a controversial 2-2 draw at Swansea on Sunday.

The result left Manchester City two points clear of them at the top of the table.

The fiery Spain striker scored in the 17th minute as Antonio Conte’s team took control of the game before conceding twice in quick succession.

In the 59th minute goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois gave away a penalty by fouling Gylfi Sigurdsson, who converted it to equalise.

Then Gary Cahill was dispossessed by Leroy Fer and apparently fouled, but Fer was allowed to go on and score.

Nine minutes from the end Costa, who also received his third yellow card in four games, equalised with an overhead scissors kick that might have been penalised for dangerous play..

Arsenal 2 Southampton 1

Arsenal: Koscielny (29’), Cazorla (90’+4’ PK)

Southampton: Petr Cech (18’ OG)

Santi Cazorla scored a 94th-minute penalty as subpar Arsenal beat Southampton with Laurent Koscielny’s overhead kick having earlier cancelled out Petr Cech’s own goal.

Cazorla held his nerve after Jose Fonte was penalised for tangling with Olivier Giroud in the box as Arsenal took all three points in a match they had appeared destined to draw.

Southampton took the lead in the 18th minute when Cech touched Dusan Tadic’s shot onto the crossbar, only for the ball to ricochet down and bounce over the line off the goalkeeper’s head.

Arsenal, who handed debuts to new signings Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez, heaped on the pressure and were rewarded in the 29th minute when Koscielny slammed home a fine overhead kick as Southampton failed to clear their lines from a corner.

Stoke City 0 Tottenham Hotspur 4

Tottenham: Heung-Min (41’, 56’), Alli (59’), Kane (70’)

• Son Heung-min scored twice and Dele Alli and Harry Kane also found the net as Tottenham Hotspur eased to a 4-0 win at Stoke City to move up to fourth in the Premier League.

Son was picked out by a fine pass from Christian Eriksen and had a moment to compose himself before beating Shay Given in the 41st minute to open the scoring.

Tottenham steadily began to rediscover the fluid attacking football that made them such an irresistible offensive threat last season, adding a second in the 56th minute when Son finished powerfully after another fine interchange with Eriksen.

West Ham United 2 Watford 4

West Ham: Antonio (5’, 33’)

Watford: Ighalo (41’), Deeney (45’+2’), Capoue (53’), Holebas (63’)

Watford came from two goals down to beat West Ham United 4-2 away in a frantic encounter on Saturday as the home side fell to their first league defeat at the London Stadium.

West Ham took the lead when Michail Antonio met Dimitri Payet’s corner to send a thumping header past Heurelho Gomes in the fifth minute. Antonio then doubled the advantage with his fourth goal of the season in the 33rd minute after heading home another fine delivery.

Watford, however, responded with two goals in quick succession at the end of the first half when Odion Ighalo netted with a low strike that deflected past keeper Adrian off James Collins before Troy Deeney equalised with a chipped effort from a tight angle in stoppage time after a defensive mix-up.

Middlesbrough 1 Crystal Palace 2

Middlesbrough: Ayala (38’)

Palace: Benteke (16’), Zaha (47’)

Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha brought relief to Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew as their goals earned the struggling Londoners their first Premier League win of the season 2-1 at Middlesbrough.

Benteke made the initial repayment on Palace’s record 32 million-pound ($42.5 million) investment as the former Liverpool striker headed home his first goal for the club in the 16th minute from Zaha’s cross.

But the joy was short-lived for Palace, who had earned just a point after three games, as Daniel Ayala’s first Premier League goal, a header from Stewart Downing’s corner, caught Palace keeper Steve Mandanda napping in the 38th minute.

Zaha struck just after the break, overpowering Boro defender George Friend before slotting past Victor Valdes to end the home side’s unbeaten start to the league season.

Bournemouth 1 West Bromwich Albion 0

Bournemouth: Wilson (79’)

• Callum Wilson’s first goal since 2015 helped Bournemouth beat West Bromwich Albion 1-0 for its first win this league season.

Wilson, who missed much of the 2015-16 season with a knee injury, was on hand to flick the ball past Ben Foster in the West Brom goal in the 79th minute.

West Brom failed to create any real threats for the Bournemouth defence. Its fans will hope that the lack of goalscoring potency isn’t a sign of things to come, given its lack of goals last season.

Burnley 1 Hull City 1

Burnley: Defour (72’)

Hull City: Snodgrass (90’+5’)

Hull City’s Robert Snodgrass curled home an equaliser five minutes into injury-time to clinch a last-gasp 1-1 draw at Burnley’s Turf Moor.

Burnley had gone ahead against the run of play with a thunderbolt drive unleashed from 30 yards by midfielder Steven Defour 20 minutes from time, and the hosts looked set for a fifth straight top-flight win over Hull.

But the visitors are on a roll under caretaker manager Mike Phelan, and when his side earned a late, late free-kick there was always a feeling Snodgrass would bang it home, which he did with the last kick of the match.

Hull had been banging on the door and had hit the woodwork in both halves, although the first half was something of a frustrating deadlock, as both sides tried to play from deep and gave very little away.

Liverpool 4 Leicester City 1

Liverpool: Firmino (13’, 89’), Mane (31’), Lallana (56’)

Leicester: Vardy (38’)

Roberto Firmino scored twice and Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana also found the net in an eye-catching attacking display from Liverpool as they beat Leicester City 4-1.

Firmino opened the scoring in the 13th minute after being found by a superb pass by James Milner, taking a touch to evade the defenders before finishing calmly across Kasper Schmeichel’s goal. Mane added a second in the 31st minute, chipping home to cap off a delicious team move after being picked out by Daniel Sturridge.

A defensive mix-up gave the champions a lifeline seven minutes later when Jamie Vardy capitalised on Lucas Leiva’s mindless ball across goal to tap in from close range, but while Leicester pressed manfully, they struggled to construct a coherent attacking threat.

The hosts restored their two-goal advantage in the 56th minute when Lallana met Giorgino Wijnaldum’s layoff and rifled a fine shot into the top corner, before Firmino added a late fourth from a searing counter attack after Schmeichel underestimated Mane’s speed and was caught in no man’s land.

Sunderland 0 Everton 3

Everton: Lukaku (60’, 68’, 71’)

Romelu Lukaku ended his longest goal drought in English football with an 11-minute hat-trick that shattered Sunderland and moved Everton to third in the table.

He had not scored a league goal in 13 matches covering more than 15 hours but, after squandering a couple of earlier chances, he was unstoppable, meeting pinpoint crosses at the far post from the right and then left in the 60th and 68th minutes.

Three minutes later the Belgium international latched on to Kevin Mirallas’s through ball to slot the ball past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for his third career treble, much to the despair of Sunderland’s former Everton manager David Moyes.

Everton’s current manager Ronald Koeman deserved some of the credit for replacing Ross Barkley with Gerard Deulofeu at halftime, which gave the visitors the width to supply Lukaku and post their most impressive start to a season for 10 years.

$1,000 award for 1,000 days on madrasa portal

Daily cash awards of $1,000 dollars will sweeten the Madrasa e-learning project by tempting more pupils to an education portal to deepen their understanding of math and sciences.

School children are required to watch an educational video each day and answer a question related to it. They then enter into a raffle draw for the $1,000 prize.

“We are targeting everyone who wants to learn. This will be $1,000 for 1,000 days so there will be a winner every day for 1,000 days,” said Sara Al Nuaimi, project manager of the Madrasa e-learning platform that was launched on Tuesday by the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, to reach Arab pupils from kindergarten to grade 12 with educational videos.

“The objective of the Madrasa is to become the number one reference for all Arab students in the world. The 5,000 videos we have online is just the beginning, we have big ambitions. Today in the Arab world there are 50 million students. We want to reach everyone who is willing to learn.”

Real estate tokenisation project

Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.

The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.

Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

Normcore explained

Something of a fashion anomaly, normcore is essentially a celebration of the unremarkable. The term was first popularised by an article in New York magazine in 2014 and has been dubbed “ugly”, “bland’ and "anti-style" by fashion writers. It’s hallmarks are comfort, a lack of pretentiousness and neutrality – it is a trend for those who would rather not stand out from the crowd. For the most part, the style is unisex, favouring loose silhouettes, thrift-shop threads, baseball caps and boyish trainers. It is important to note that normcore is not synonymous with cheapness or low quality; there are high-fashion brands, including Parisian label Vetements, that specialise in this style. Embraced by fashion-forward street-style stars around the globe, it’s uptake in the UAE has been relatively slow.
