• BEST: Austrian Grand Prix: Max Verstappen drove a tactically masterful race as he kept his pace up to keep the Ferrari cars behind him, while looking after his fragile tyres. The best win of his career to date.

  • BEST: Mexican Grand Prix: Verstappen was furious with himself at missing out on pole to teammate Daniel Ricciardo, but channeled that anger constructively as he dominated the race and again mixed strong pace with impressive tyre conservation.

  • BEST: Brazilian Grand PrixFor the first 44 laps he was amazing. Passed three world champions on his way to leading. Lost the victory after contact with back marker Esteban Ocon, but despite his car being damaged, fought back to push Lewis Hamilton hard as he finished second.

  • WORST: Chinese Grand Prix - Daniel Ricciardo won this race but this should have been Verstappen’s race. He was running ahead of the Australian when he first tried to pass Hamilton at a place where overtaking was impossible in Shanghai and predictably went off. He then compounded things by punting into Vettel at the hairpin and then had the audacity to blame the German for his ill-judged lunge.

  • WORST: Azerbaijan Grand Prix - Red Bull tried to play it as a 50-50 incident but the Dutchman was clearly at fault for the collision with Ricciardo that took both men out of the race in Baku. He changed his line under braking, giving his teammate nowhere to go apart from into the back of him. Verstappen had driven aggressively against Ricciardo throughout that race and it finally proved costly.

  • WORST: Monaco Grand Prix - Verstappen should have won this. He had been quicker than Ricciardo but crashed heavily in the final seconds of practice when there had been no reason to push so hard. Ricciardo won the race, while Verstappen drove to ninth on a day when he knew he should have been at the front.
