Habib Fardan is looking forward to winning his first domestic silverware after his big-money move to defending Arabian Gulf League and League Cup champions Al Ahli.
The midfielder helped end Al Nasr’s 25-year-wait for a trophy by leading them to the GCC Club Championships title in May and was named the player of the tournament. Fardan, 23, in red, has since moved to Ahli in what is reportedly one of the biggest deals for an Emirati player in UAE football history.
“This is going to be a big season for me with both the club and the national team, and I hope to achieve success with both,” Fardan said at a news conference yesterday.
Fardan had his list of targets with his new club ready. “My ambition here with Ahli is to win the first domestic title of my career and I am looking forward that. I hope we will successfully defend the three titles Ahli won last season and also do well in the AFC Champions League. I believe that we have the team and the spirit to do that.”
Fardan, who came through Al Wasl’s youth ranks before moving to Al Nasr in 2009, did not forget his former club. “I thank the Al Nasr management for all the support I received from them during my time at the club and the professional manner in which they dealt with my transfer,” Fardan said. He refused to disclose any of the financial details of his four-year deal.
