Abdullah Misfir has been installed as head coach at Baniyas, succeeding Luis Garcia, the Spaniard who left his position on Friday.

The Emirati had been in charge of the UAE Under 23 national team, but he will now guide the Abu Dhabi club through the final five rounds of the Arabian Gulf League. Baniyas are currently eighth in the table. Salem Al Orafi, a former player, manager and technical director at the club, will act as his assistant.

Misfir has previously coached Dibba Al Fujairah and Al Dhafra at club level, while he also served at various times as head coach of the UAE national team, albeit always in a caretaker capacity. He is now one of three Emiratis managing in the top flight, alongside Eid Baroot at Fujairah and at Abdulaziz Al Anbari Sharjah.
