Julian Smart celebrated his third Dubai Kahayla Classic title when Reda under Harry Bentley stormed from the middle of the field to cross the finishing line first in the 2,000-metre race for the Purebred Arabians.
AF Mathmoon, attempting to win back-to-back Kahayla titles was made to set the early pace followed by Loraa, TM Thunder Struck, last year’s runner-up, and RB Burn occupying the first four places.
This order did not change until they moved on to the home stretch. RB Burn under Gerald Avranche was the first to challenge AF Mathmoon but the Eric Lemartinel-trained runner had no answer to the exhilarating late finish of Reda.
It was also Reda’s biggest career prize in 16 starts. Smart won the Kahayla with Nez D’Or in 2002 for the late UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan and landed a second with Jaafer in 2010 for Qatar.
Sniper de Monlau finished third.
