David Beckham training with Arsenal - but Wenger rules out deal

The former England midfielder has joined the Premier League side at their training ground while he decides on his future after leaving Los Angeles Galaxy.

David Beckham is training with Arsenal while deciding on his future - but Arsene Wenger insists he will not be signing the former England captain.

Beckham is a free agent since leaving Los Angeles Galaxy last month, and has been working with Arsenal at their training base.

The 37-year-old has been considering offers from a number of clubs since leaving the Major League Soccer side - and has been linked with a move to the Pro League.

But the Arsenal manager insists he will not be making a move for the midfielder before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

"He called me," Wenger said.

"He has asked to come here and to work on his fitness. He has not done anything for a long, long time.

"(It's) purely for fitness. There's no speculation about signing or anything."

It is not the first time Wenger has offered use of Arsenal's training facilities - former player Thierry Henry has also trained with the side during the MLS close season.

With Wenger playing down the possibility of Beckham signing on a permanent basis he was asked what benefit there is for Arsenal.

He said: "Nothing. To help somebody.

"We are open for people who behave well when they come here."

Last week it emerged that Beckham's son Brooklyn was trying out for Chelsea's youth side after being the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player was spotted watching an under-14s game at Chelsea's training ground.
