Board elections are as drab as they come in the game of cricket. But not when you are talking about India and definitely not when an iconic name like Sourav Ganguly pulls off a midnight coup to emerge as the sole candidate for the post of BCCI president.

Former India batsman Brijesh Patel was the front-runner for the post until Sunday evening. But in a dramatic turn of events, Ganguly became the consensus candidate by Monday morning.

Ganguly was flanked by former BCCI bigwigs N Srinivasan, Niranjan Shah and Rajeev Shukla as he filed his nomination for the BCCI top post. While these names might not ring a bell outside India, they are officials who played a huge role in changing the cricket world order with the rise of the IPL.

Ganguly's imminent election will have major ramifications for India and world cricket. For starters, the Indian Telegraph reported that former BCCI chief Srinivasan wants to represent BCCI at the International Cricket Council. For the record, the ICC is led by another former BCCI president – Shashank Manohar .

Also, Jay Shah – son of the country's home minister Amit Shah – is set to become the board's secretary.

So just remember these names because they are the ones who will call the shots in Indian, and even world, cricket.
