Rashid Khan celebrated his 20th birthday with a superb all-round performance to lead Afghanistan to an emphatic victory over Bangladesh in the Asia Cup dead-rubber group game on Thursday.
The Afghan spinner smashed a 32-ball 57 and shared a record 95-run stand for the eighth wicket with Gulbadin Naib to help Afghanistan post 255-7.
Rashid’s knock was highlighted by eight fours and a six over the mid-wicket fence. Gulbadin chipped in a valuable 38-ball 42.
After lifting his side with that cameo knock, Rashid came in to do what he does best, bowling a tidy spell to return with figures of 9-3-13-2 in the 136-run triumph.

Afghanistan, electing to bat first, had earlier laboured to 160-7 in 40.5 overs before Rashid and Gulbadin came together to put the Bangladesh bowling attack to the sword.
Bangladesh were in a strong position until the 41st over with Abu Hider, making his ODI debut, provided the early breakthroughs. The left arm seamer grabbed the first two wickets to reduce Afghanistan to 28-2 in the sixth over.
Abu Hider was in the spotlight again when he held on to an excellent catch at the long-on fence to remove Mohammed Shahzad for 37 for the first of four wickets for left arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan.
It also ended a 51-run stand for the third wicket between Shahzad and Hashmatullah Shahidi, who hit a defiant 98-ball 58 having arrived at the crease at No 4.
Playing for the first time in Abu Dhabi, Bangladesh were given a warm reception by their fans. They outnumbered the Afghans in the 17,000 crowd by occupying more than 75 per cent of the stadium.
They also braved the scorching afternoon sun at the uncovered spectators’ area to stand behind their team, but midway through their innings they started to leave after the fall of Shakib’s wicket that left them struggling at 79-5.
And it was Rashid who had Shakib trapped in front for the first of his two wickets. Mujeeb ur Rahman was the first to strike when he had debutant Nazmul Hossain caught by Aftab Alam at backward point for 15.
Alam removed the other opener Liton Das and Gulbadin produced a double blow to leave Bangladesh reeling at 43-4. Bangladeshi wickets continued to fall at regular intervals until Mujeeb Ur Rahman wrapped up the victory for Afghanistan by trapping No 11 Rubel Hossain lbw for a first-ball duck.
Afghanistan play Pakistan in the opening Super Four round at the Zayed Cricket stadium while Bangladesh travel to Dubai for a meeting with India both on Friday.

Mazen Abukhater, principal and actuary at global consultancy Mercer, Middle East, says the company’s Melbourne Mercer Global Pension Index - which benchmarks 34 pension schemes across the globe to assess their adequacy, sustainability and integrity - included Saudi Arabia for the first time this year to offer a glimpse into the region.
The index highlighted fundamental issues for all 34 countries, such as a rapid ageing population and a low growth / low interest environment putting pressure on expected returns. It also highlighted the increasing popularity around the world of defined contribution schemes.
“Average life expectancy has been increasing by about three years every 10 years. Someone born in 1947 is expected to live until 85 whereas someone born in 2007 is expected to live to 103,” Mr Abukhater told the Mena Pensions Conference.
“Are our systems equipped to handle these kind of life expectancies in the future? If so many people retire at 60, they are going to be in retirement for 43 years – so we need to adapt our retirement age to our changing life expectancy.”
Saudi Arabia came in the middle of Mercer’s ranking with a score of 58.9. The report said the country's index could be raised by improving the minimum level of support for the poorest aged individuals and increasing the labour force participation rate at older ages as life expectancies rise.
Mr Abukhater said the challenges of an ageing population, increased life expectancy and some individuals relying solely on their government for financial support in their retirement years will put the system under strain.
“To relieve that pressure, governments need to consider whether it is time to switch to a defined contribution scheme so that individuals can supplement their own future with the help of government support,” he said.

Building boom turning to bust as Turkey's economy slows
Deep in a provincial region of northwestern Turkey, it looks like a mirage - hundreds of luxury houses built in neat rows, their pointed towers somewhere between French chateau and Disney castle.
Meant to provide luxurious accommodations for foreign buyers, the houses are however standing empty in what is anything but a fairytale for their investors.
The ambitious development has been hit by regional turmoil as well as the slump in the Turkish construction industry - a key sector - as the country's economy heads towards what could be a hard landing in an intensifying downturn.
After a long period of solid growth, Turkey's economy contracted 1.1 per cent in the third quarter, and many economists expect it will enter into recession this year.
The country has been hit by high inflation and a currency crisis in August. The lira lost 28 per cent of its value against the dollar in 2018 and markets are still unconvinced by the readiness of the government under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to tackle underlying economic issues.
The villas close to the town centre of Mudurnu in the Bolu region are intended to resemble European architecture and are part of the Sarot Group's Burj Al Babas project.
But the development of 732 villas and a shopping centre - which began in 2014 - is now in limbo as Sarot Group has sought bankruptcy protection.
It is one of hundreds of Turkish companies that have done so as they seek cover from creditors and to restructure their debts.
