Manchester City face a difficult decision over Carlos Tevez's future. The Abu Dhabi-owned club had agreed to allow Tevez to join Corinthians for less than their original €50m asking price but asked for a change in the schedule - and bank guarantees - of payments proposed by the Brazilian club.
Corinthians, however, have declined to change the terms of the offer, which would only see them make an initial instalment of €10m in May 2012.
Though questions have been raised about the seriousness of the Brazilian offer - which is regarded by some observers as an attempt to flush out European clubs - senior Corinthians officials are adamant that they want the player.
They also insist that personal terms have been agreed with Tevez that will see the 27-year-old striker accept a significant reduction on his current salary.
Corinthians say they cannot start paying the transfer fee until they are in receipt of revenue from a Reais100m (Dh232m) television rights deal that begins next summer.
The Sao Paulo club also argue that it would not make financial sense to borrow money against those broadcast rights to meet City's schedule.
Tevez has repeatedly asked to be allowed to leave City over the past seven months, a club the striker captained to the FA Cup in May, citing the difficulties of being separated from his daughters who returned to Buenos Aires with their mother after she failed to settle in Manchester.
Having acceded to Tevez's departure to Corinthians at a discounted transfer fee, City must either tell the Argentine he cannot move to Brazil or wait 10 months to start receiving a transfer fee for him.
The Premier League side has already begun preparing for Tevez's exit by lining up fellow Argentina international Sergio Aguero as a replacement.
Aguero, who has told his employers at Atletico Madrid he wishes to no longer wishes to remain at the club, can be bought out of his contract if a €45m (Dh234.1m) clause is met.
The Brazilian transfer window closes on Thursday.

How Alia's experiment will help humans get to Mars
Alia’s winning experiment examined how genes might change under the stresses caused by being in space, such as cosmic radiation and microgravity.
Her samples were placed in a machine on board the International Space Station. called a miniPCR thermal cycler, which can copy DNA multiple times.
After the samples were examined on return to Earth, scientists were able to successfully detect changes caused by being in space in the way DNA transmits instructions through proteins and other molecules in living organisms.
Although Alia’s samples were taken from nematode worms, the results have much bigger long term applications, especially for human space flight and long term missions, such as to Mars.
It also means that the first DNA experiments using human genomes can now be carried out on the ISS.
