Major League Baseball pitcher Jose Fernandez of the Miami Marlins has died, the team confirmed in a statement on Sunday. Media reports said he was killed in a boating accident on Miami Beach. He was 24.

“The Miami Marlins organisation is devastated by the tragic loss of Jose Fernandez. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time,” the statement said.

Fernandez was one of three people killed in the accident, according to media reports.

They found an overturned boat which had apparently crashed on rocks.
