Roy Hodgson took Jack Wilshere to one side and spoke to him about his conduct following his “ill-advised” rant during Arsenal’s FA Cup winning parade.
Wilshere grabbed the microphone and described Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham as “s***” during the parade in north London last week.
His actions have brought him an FA misconduct charge and a public dressing down from the England manager.
On the eve of England’s friendly against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin, Hodgson told a news conference he was disappointed by Wilshere’s conduct.
“It’s not the type of behaviour we encourage, and it’s not the type of behaviour we particularly we want to see,” Hodgson said.
“Unfortunately young men some times do things they shouldn’t do and regret.
“I do wish players would behave in an angelic manner. I’ve been wishing that for 40 years, but I’m coming to terms with the fact they do things that are ill-advised and not the right things to do.”

Wilshere apologised to anyone who was “upset or offended” by his comments the day after the parade.
Hodgson still felt the need to speak to the midfielder after he joined up with the England squad at St George’s Park earlier this week though.
“I had a little word with him, but I won’t tell you what I said,” Hodgson added
“I think it was important that Arsenal took that matter in hand quickly, which they did.
“By the time I got to see Jack, it had already been virtually sorted out as far as Arsenal was concerned.
“The FA have charged him and he must accept that. To be frank, there’s not so much to say.
“I’ve got to concentrate on him and our leave our authorities at the FA and Arsenal Football Club to try to make certain that he curbs his enthusiasm to do the wrong thing from time to time.”
Wilshere is in line to feature Sunday’s game at the Aviva Stadium.
He missed the last two England matches through injury, but ended 2014 in good form for his country.
The 23-year-old played a pivotal role in the wins over Switzerland, Scotland and Estonia at the base of a midfield diamond.
Hodgson is looking forward to having the Arsenal player available for Sunday’s prestige friendly.
“He played very well (for England), and plays in a position we think is a very good one for us going forward,” the former Liverpool manager said.
“He has competition there from Michael Carrick, who has the same qualities for how we’d like a player to play in that position.
“Going forward, we are desperate, like most people who follow English football, that Jack keeps himself fit and gets a run of games because we believe his qualities will be very important for us going forward into the Euros.”
