What’s in a name? It’s question we ask a lot here, where place names have a habit of changing overnight. The inscription on the map is not always the name that’s used by the locals or long-time residents. In Abu Dhabi, many people still use the term Tourist Club to describe the district that’s officially been Al Zahiyah for 18 months, along with old street names such as Electra and Airport roads.
In Dubai, it’s just been announced that Dubai World Central – the city within a city that includes Al Maktoum International Airport and the World Expo 2020 site – will henceforth be known as Dubai South.
Will the new name stick? Or, Dubai being Dubai, perhaps a funky nickname will emerge. Is anybody heading to DuSo this weekend?
