Sheikh Zayed lives on in our memories

  • English
  • Arabic

I grew up under Sheikh Zayed and he is missed by all to this day (Sheikh Zayed's humanitarian legacy lives on, June 17). He was a true inspiration and leader – he lives on in all our memories as the Founding Father of this country, along with Sheikh Rashid.

Both held the vision of what our generation now calls modern day Dubai.

The UAE means a lot to us

The UAE is a blessed country, with visionary leaders and lovely people (Sheikh Mohammed's mosque renaming conveys a beautiful message, June 19).

As a Christian and an African, this great country means a lot to me as well as to my community.

It’s a door to our continent. Every single development here impacts the entire continent of Africa.

Samuel Oballa, Abu Dhabi

This example should be followed by every country in the world. This way they can promote interfaith dialogue, tolerance and brotherhood.

Schools have many problems

I refer to the article Teachers' attitudes among issues to be addressed in public school curriculum reform (June 14).

Are you aware of the atmosphere, working conditions, student behaviour and administrative abuse going on in schools where you say teachers’ attitudes need improving?

Troy Patrick, Dubai

It remains neglected because no one considers it necessary or important enough. Once this attitude changes, the neglect might stop.

Visa rule not quite useful

Needing to pay 50 per cent of the mortgage to qualify for a property-related visa means you will need to live in the country for more than 10 years after getting your property (What you need to qualify for a UAE property visa, June 17). Such rules seem to be quite dumb and are not much use for most people.

Water wastage is common here

The letter We cannot afford to waste water (June 19) quite rightly raised the problem of wasting water.

In my area in Abu Dhabi, there is a villa and every morning a chauffeur washes five brand new and perfectly clean cars with a hosepipe that runs each day for well over an hour. It’s sad to watch this.

Whoever is paying the water bills in this villa is not paying enough.

It’s time we realise that we live in a desert.
