Parents should not just limit their personal use of mobile phones, they should also avoid giving everything their children ask for (Is your smartphone addiction harming your child?, August 9).
I have seen many toddlers fiddling with mobile phones. Clearly, it’s not a very healthy habit to encourage. When you see these examples, you realise why some children become addicted to these devices. If you love your children, you will have to first think of their well-being.

This is why today’s youngsters and future generations will not be able to lead as successfully their forefathers did – the issue in relation to the use of a mobile device needs to be addressed now before it is too late.

Proud of our soldiers who keep all of us safe and secure
The news of the accident is terrible (Four UAE soldiers killed as coalition helicopter crashes in Yemen, August 12). May God rest their souls in peace and comfort their families. We are proud of their commitment and sacrifice for the UAE and its citizens and residents.

It would be nice to have a place like Dubai Safari Park
Your story about the director of the new safari park comes as a breath of fresh (Portrait of a Nation: Expert coaxed out of retirement to welcome wild animals to Dubai, August 11). At last, Dubai has someone with experience to take care of zoo animals. It would be good to have a place like Dubai Safari Park to recommend and take our friends and family to. Now, many out there might say that they could do the job, but the truth is that they all had their chance to show off their capabilities. Well done, Dubai Municipality. It is finally on the right track.

Non-payment of salaries will take toll on families
I feel sorry for the poor workers (Thousands of foreign workers in Oman not paid for months, August 13). It's not just them who are suffering, but their families back home who rely on their monthly remittances. People living without a salary for months can perhaps mean many of their families are struggling to make ends meet.
