With regard to Coronavirus: Oman's sultan forms committee to boost economy (June 14): this is a wise decision by Sultan Haitham. Civil servants with 30 years of service should retire. In other words, let the youth take the lead to boost the economy.

I am an older person and realise at some stage we have to loosen the reins and let young people take over. However they would be wise to soak up the advice from older people too. If you give advice it is because you care. I love your country and your people, I lived there for some years and loved it. I learnt some wonderful lessons. I wish Oman all the best for the future.

Herder communities in Nigeria need government protection

Regarding Jamie Prentis's report Nigeria failing to protect Christian farmers from violence, British MPs say (June 15): these conflicts in my home country are so sad. The investigation has revealed the Fulani militia have murdered more men, women and children in three consecutive years than even Boko Haram. It should not go on like this.

UAE is making great progress, given the number of recoveries

With reference to Shuchita Gautam's report Coronavirus: about 40% of UAE deaths linked to diabetes (June 15): it is unfortunate that the rate of diabetes in countries in this part of the world is very high. Fast food has destroyed our planet in so many different ways.

Despite the underlying health causes, given that the Emirates recorded 342 new cases and again almost twice as many 667 recoveries, I would say the UAE government is doing good work.

Disrespect to memorials needs to be dealt with strictly
With regard to Jamie Prentis's report Man jailed for urinating beside memorial for British policeman killed in terror attack (June 15): I can't imagine this man has a job but if he does I hope his boss will take appropriate action and boot him out.
