With regard to the report Three babies die of hypothermia in Gaza's tents in past 48 hours, hospital director says (December 26): This is heartbreak upon heartbreak. The world must not forget the children in Gaza. They too deserve a warm home, a comfy bed, a full stomach, going to school and having a carefree childhood. Much more needs to be done to ensure a ceasefire so that Gazans can begin to piece their lives back together. The've lived through more trauma than anyone should have to, for over a year. These excruciating losses that too many families know sadly too well must end soon.

Inflated insurance policy costs
With regard to Nick Webster's report Dubai authorities urge residents to report health insurance firms inflating policy prices (December 11): I am writing to express for this insightful article regarding the substantial yearly increases demanded by health insurance companies.
I have personally experienced a similar issue this year, with my insurance provider drastically increasing my coverage premium from Dh22,101.87 to Dh262,578.57. Their justification for this increase was a claim that I suffer from a chronic illness. However, I do not have any chronic conditions and requested proof from the company, which they failed to provide.
This kind of behaviour is appalling and wholly unacceptable. It is disheartening to see such practices being imposed on people without valid justification.
Thank you for shedding light on this critical issue, and I hope your article prompts further discussion and action.

Will Trump be able to end the wars?
In reference to Raghida Dergham's op-ed Israel and Turkey are betting on Trump's Pax Americana (December 22): Perhaps never before has an incoming US president made such an impact even before taking office, as Donald Trump has. Yet, Ukraine and the European nations are anxiously waiting for the president-elect’s initiatives. They are hoping that he will help to end the war expeditiously.
Both, Ukraine and Russia are tired of the war that has been on for almost three years, in February. Both countries are depending on allies to support them with men and materials.
Sadly, not everyone realises the impact that their decisions have on the lives of ordinary people. Talk to the families, widows and orphans of soldiers fallen on the battlefield. Then we understand the deadly costs of any war.
