Emotional ride

With the opening of Ferrari World’s latest attraction, the Flying Aces, thrillseekers will have the opportunity to experience a roller coaster with the world’s steepest and fastest cable lift, at 51 degrees and moving at 30 kph, and the world’s tallest inverted loop, climbing to 52 metres.

This is yet another fun new attraction for the capital – and it will be followed by three more rides in the next two years as part of Ferrari World’s expansion plan. But what is it about roller coasters that draw people in? Why would someone choose to subject themselves to the shock of sudden movement or the fear of falling?

Perhaps what makes the experience attractive is the sense that, despite the thrills, the roller coaster is designed to be safe. So it’s more about the feeling of relief and pleasure after the ride, when the adrenalin has been metabolised and the body is finally relaxed. After all, emotions are painful only when we get lost in them, when we can’t control them.
