What brings out the best in a workforce? Is it a workspace like Google’s, with meals, massages, bean bags and bowling alleys all provided free? Here in the UAE, would having a majlis set up in the office mean that ideas can be discussed in a forum in which Emirati workers feel at home?
The majlis idea was proposed, as The National reported yesterday, by Saeed Al Nazari, director general of ThinkHR Consultancy, at an Emiratisation forum. The idea is that if workplaces are made more creative and fun, Emiratis will love coming to work.
One suspects workers here are no different from workers in the rest of the world. Bringing out the best in people relies not on majlises but on relationships, where every employee feels valued and happy. Get that right and everything else will fall into place.
