More than 1,000 pupils in Dubai will be provided with essential school supplies and tablets before their return to classrooms next week under a major community campaign.
The initiative – launched by the emirate's Community Development Authority – aims to deliver support to families preparing for the new academic year, which begins on Monday, August 31.
The authority – which has rolled out the Back to School scheme in partnership with Dubai Community Contributions Establishment (Jood) and the Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (Awqaf Dubai) – said it would help learners achieve their education goals while championing family values.
“Through this integrated approach, we strengthen family stability and enhance the quality of life of community members, transforming social responsibility into tangible impact by directing resources towards actual priorities and supporting the aspirations of our students”, said Maitha Al Shamsi, chief executive of the Community Empowerment Sector at the Community Development Authority.
Marwan bin Hashem, chief executive of Jood, said the initiative is rooted in the belief that education remains a fundamental pillar of human development. He said ensuring children have essential school supplies will foster a positive environment in which pupils have the confidence to make strides on their academic journeys.
The campaign comes as hundreds of thousands of pupils look forward to their first day back at school following the summer break. Pupils, parents and school leaders alike are looking forward to the new term with optimism after the previous academic year was disrupted by the Iran war, leading to a temporary switch to remote learning and the cancellation of many in-person exams.
The Back to School initiative is in support of Dubai Social Agenda 33, which is intended to establish the emirate as a global destination for living, learning and investment.
