Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made a trip to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi as part of his official visit to the Emirates.
Mr Carney was accompanied by Abdulrahman Ali Al Neyadi, UAE ambassador to Canada, and Radha Krishna Panday, Canada's ambassador to the UAE, state news agency Wam reported on Friday.
The delegation was met by Dr Yousif Abdallah Alobaidli, director-general of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, who guided them on a tour of the mosque’s halls and courtyards.
“It is an exceptional opportunity to receive such a specialised and thorough presentation of this landmark,” Mr Carney said.
“Beyond its beauty and the inspiration it evokes, this monument brings together diverse elements in a unified vision. It is a humbling and inspiring scene, and a testament to Sheikh Zayed’s vision and to the dedicated efforts of the Emiratis who helped realise it.”
On Thursday, Mr Carney met with President Sheikh Mohamed in Abu Dhabi as the countries signed an agreement to strengthen economic co-operation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, an agreement was made on the protection and promotion of investment, intended to bolster economic co-operation and foster strategic investment partnerships.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the UAE by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and on behalf of Canada by Prime Minister Mark Carney.
In 2024, Canada’s two-way trade with the UAE was valued at $3.4 billion, with $2.6 billion in exports and $800 million in imports. More than 150 Canadian companies have an operational presence in the UAE, Mr Carney's office said.
