If you’re travelling to Dubai this summer or simply stopping over in the emirate on your way to another destination you may want to consider some of the discounted holiday packages Emirates has to offer.

When booking a fare with the carrier, passengers are now able to avail a selection of exclusive rates at some of the region’s hotels, theme parks, shows and attractions.

Room rates start from as little as Dh179 per night at Rove Dubai Marina and for that you’ll also get two free tickets to Dubai Parks and Resorts.

For those who prefer to base themselves in Downtown Dubai, Emirates has also teamed up with the Rove Downtown, Manzil Downtown and Address Downtown hotels.

Rates at the Rove Downtown start from Dh363 a night for two and include tickets to the new Virtual Reality Park at Dubai Mall, while the Manzil Downtown is offering a night’s stay for Dh547 and they are throwing in two free tickets to La Perle.

If a stay at The Address Hotel - which has reopened in recent months after being damaged by fire on New Year's Eve 2016 - is the most attractive option for you, a night will cost you Dh730 and includes a free trip up up the Burj Khalifa. For more information go to www.emirates.com

Tank warfare

Lt Gen Erik Petersen, deputy chief of programs, US Army, has argued it took a “three decade holiday” on modernising tanks.

“There clearly remains a significant armoured heavy ground manoeuvre threat in this world and maintaining a world class armoured force is absolutely vital,” the general said in London last week.

“We are developing next generation capabilities to compete with and deter adversaries to prevent opportunism or miscalculation, and, if necessary, defeat any foe decisively.”

Sheer grandeur

The Owo building is 14 storeys high, seven of which are below ground, with the 30,000 square feet of amenities located subterranean, including a 16-seat private cinema, seven lounges, a gym, games room, treatment suites and bicycle storage.

A clear distinction between the residences and the Raffles hotel with the amenities operated separately.
